Rosaura's Law: Building a Future of Healthy Relationships and Awareness
Rosaura’s Law is a powerful initiative aimed at transforming the way our schools approach relationship education and domestic abuse awareness. Named in honor of Rosaura, who tragically lost her life to domestic violence, this law seeks to prevent similar tragedies by equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to build healthy, respectful relationships.
Key Components of Rosaura's Law:
Healthy Relationship Education: Mandates that all Arizona middle and high schools include curriculum on what constitutes a healthy relationship, focusing on mutual respect, consent, and emotional well-being.
Domestic Abuse Prevention and Awareness: Students will learn to identify warning signs of domestic abuse and the resources available to help those who may be in danger.
Teen Dating Violence Awareness: Provides tools for recognizing the often-overlooked issue of teen dating violence, empowering students to support themselves and their peers in staying safe.
Men’s Emotional Education: Encourages open conversations around men's emotional health, teaching emotional intelligence, healthy coping mechanisms, and addressing the stigma around expressing feelings.
Modeled after the successful Bree’s Law in Alaska, Rosaura’s Law strives to ensure that the next generation is better prepared to avoid and address situations of abuse. It fosters a culture of safety, empathy, and empowerment in Arizona’s schools, aiming to reduce domestic violence before it begins.
Rosaura’s parents, April and Joe Barbosa, are passionately working to get this law enacted in Arizona. Through their nonprofit, Rosaura’s Legacy, they are advocating for legislative change to ensure that future generations are better educated and equipped to foster healthy relationships and prevent the cycle of abuse. Their dedication to this cause is not only a tribute to Rosaura’s life but a vital step toward a safer, more informed community.
This crucial effort has gained the support of Senator Gabaldon and the Arizona State Board of Education, providing key momentum to help push Rosaura’s Law into legislation. Their backing reflects the widespread recognition of the importance of this law and the impact it will have on protecting Arizona’s youth.
By supporting Rosaura's Law, you are helping to safeguard the future of Arizona’s youth and honor the memory of Rosaura, whose love for others and passion for animals continues to inspire.
